An annual initiative, Council Fellows is co-led by former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D., and Larry Van Horn, associate professor of management and executive director of health affairs at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management. It provides a rare, highly collaborative experience that leverages deep knowledge of the industry’s founding experts as well as nationally known figures and leading academic institutions. The class engages participants to better implement business strategies, create value, drive growth and effect change.

“The 2016 Fellows class serves as an unmistakable testament to the bright future of our industry and the high caliber of passionate, innovative thought leaders in this community,” Frist said. “After just four years, I am thrilled to already see the impact this program is having on the delivery of health care across the country.”

“When we started this program, our goal was to create an environment where the top health care minds are able to come together and establish a collaborative vision for creating meaningful change,” Van Hornsaid. “Executives from across the country recognize Fellows as a unique, highly valuable opportunity to learn and exchange ideas among those who will create the health care industry of the future.”

Through eight daylong sessions, 30 Fellows from a wide variety of industry sectors completed a specifically designed curriculum that featured nationally renowned speakers in leadership, health care, economics and business strategies.  Guest faculty for the 2016 Fellows classes included, among others:

  • Governor Phil Bredesen
  • Troyen Brennan, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, CVS Health
  • Zane Burke, President, Cerner Corp.
  • David Cordani, CEO, Cigna
